Congressional Term Limits
Congressional Term Limits would restrict the amount of time a person could serve in Congress as a Representative or Senator. Currently, each member of the House of Representatives serves a two-year term, and the Senate serves a six-year term.
In 1994 the Republican Party attempted to pass legislation requiring Term Limits in Congress. The House members would be limited to six two-year terms and the Senate would be limited to two six-year terms.
Congressional Term Limits would require an amendment to the Constitution. Constitutional amendments require a two-thirds majority vote; the Republicans in 1994 were unable to acquire the 290 votes needed to pass the legislation.
The founding fathers understood that a large, centralized Federal Government would become corrupt.
